Susie Gower Fertility to Birth Mentor
Praise from the National Childbirth Trust
As mums we are dealing with the effects of tiredness, juggling family life and constant decision making on a daily basis, the ‘expenses’ or ‘debits’ from our emotional bank account. We all have experience of how these can take their effects on us mentally and emotionally as well as physically. Susie shared great ideas to help us balance our emotional bankaccount with those things that nurture, nourish and rejuvenate us , the ‘deposits’ or ‘credits’. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Susie for sharing her experience, enthusiasm and expertise.
Becoming a Mama was created to help, support and guide women who seek holistic avenues for their fertility to birth journey.
My own journey started over 20 years ago after announcing our wonderful pregnancy news to family and friends. At 13 weeks, I sadly miscarried. It was devastating, emotionally difficult and I felt that there was nobody outside of my immediate circle who I could talk to.
Armed with only a leaflet from the hospital as my after care, I went searching for help and support. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything or anyone to support my emotional issues, so I decided to go to the local beauty salon for a ‘pick me up’ treatment.
Reflexology was offered, but I didn’t know anything about it, so I decided to give it a go. I was amazed at how this lady who I had never met before knew my current situation by simply working my feet. It was incredible and it lead to a conversation that she herself had suffered a miscarriage the previous year. From that moment, I was completely hooked on reflexology and fascinated about how it worked. I knew it worked – as I had experienced it first hand, and it gave me the safe place I was looking for to release my emotions and feelings.
I then went on to have two wonderful boys. As my sons were growing up, I left my corporate job behind to be a stay-at-home mum, which was perfect for me. When the boys went to school I was asked to be a ‘special needs’ support for a beautiful little boy. My next step was chair of the PTA, where I introduced pampering evenings just for mums – this was a huge hit and lead to many more fundraising activities to purchase much needed playground equipment for the children.
With my kids settled at school, I decided it was time for me to open a mum and baby complementary therapy clinic, with the aim to emotionally support women during the happy and often difficult times of trying for a baby. I went back to school to study reflexology. Here I learnt how to look and treat the person as a whole, not just the condition.
I soon became aware of the mind/body approach and how to balance and treat them in harmony. Courses in reiki and hypnotherapy followed very quickly to fill in the gaps and within a few years, I felt that I could truly offer my clientele a unique mind, body and spiritual approach to wellbeing.
I am truly passionate about helping women embrace the many benefits of complementary therapies, such as reflexology, hypnotherapy and reiki and feel committed to offering practical, easy-to-implement advice, which can help enhance confidence, and get you into the right mind set to conceive, whilst reducing stress and helping you feel more positive and in control. Most of all, I endeavour to help you enjoy the journey of becoming a mama!
If I had to sum up what I can do for you in one word, it would be to enhance ‘balance’ in your life. When the body is balanced, you feel calm, if you feel calm you will feel relaxed, if you feel relaxed you feel content, if you feel content you will be happy, if you are happy you will be confident and ready to embrace life and whatever it throws at you.
