The sadness and displeasure that comes with the non-fulfilment of your hopes and expectations, that’s disappointment.
Coping with the monthly disappointment of getting your period can be hard, it’s tricky to shake the emotion cycle after cycle and just knowing that you may be in for a bit of a wait can seem such a never ending hurdle to climb.
Disappointment can make you feel:
• A complete failure, you’d done everything possible and still no positive outcome
• Frustrated at the friends and family who keep saying ‘just give it some time’
• Unhappy at yourself, questioning what may be wrong with your reproductive system
• Sad that everyone around you seems to be getting pregnant easily except you
Naturally you will feel disappointment at some point on your journey so be easy on yourself when it happens and be kind to yourself. Give yourself permission to feel the emotion deeply, indulging in a good cry is just fine, and then to let it go
What can we do about it?
Don’t play the BLAME game. Make an effort to talk with your partner and comfort and support each other as you’re going through this time. Don’t be afraid to share your feelings, realise that you and your partner will have ups and downs along the way, keep in close communication with kindness and revive the love and fun that brought you together in the first place.
Dwell on the positives and see that the odds in your favour that you will be able to get pregnant and persistence and belief will pay off.
